Doberman Service Dog Training

We don’t usually see dobermans being used as service dogs but when we do it’s a wonderful thing. Not only do these dogs help their owners but they also help improve the doberman’s reputation.

Since dobermans are naturally intelligent, highly trainable and alert dogs they are perfect candidates for service work. Although they are typically known for their work as guard dogs, I expect we’ll see dobermans being used more in other fields. Usually we see little toy dogs, owned by celebrities and looking more like fashion accessories than loved pets. And rarely do we see our beloved doberman with a celebrity, being photographed by the paparazzi.  But of course there are many famous doberman owners, some who have sadly passed away.  I think you’ll find this list interesting and it shows how diverse the people who love dobermans are. This list is partially taken from Stanley Coren’s book, “Why we love the dogs we do”, as well as various online research.

Hunter S Thompson, the American writer, has several Dobes and has included them in his books.  In Where The Buffalo Roam, Hunter had his doberman Bronco, trained to attack on the command word, Nixon.  When we was alive he aparently  raised peacocks and dobermans.
